Yevgeny Martynov was born in Ukraine, which was a part of the Soviet Union at that time, where he started his skating career. He began skating at the age of four. Yevgeny was fortunate to be introduced to the game of hockey and figure skating under the intense and structured programs of the Soviet Union. These athletic experiences shaped his personality and allowed him to develop into a world class athlete.
Due to his superior skating skills, Yevgeny was recruited to join a hockey team at young age. The team was recognized as one of the leading teams of Soviet Union at that time. Debating between two sports, Yevgeny made the decision to focus solely on figure skating, and has since made his mark on the world stage. He has won several Ukranian National titles and represented his country in two Junior World Championships under the age of 18, among many other prestigious international competitions.
In 1997, Yevgeny graduated from the Ukraine University with a Bachelor Degree of Arts in Physical Education. He came to the United States in 2000 to perform as the principal skater of "Disney on Ice." Yevgeny was able to reach great success in the figure skating, but his real passion has always been the game of hockey. In the fall of 2006 Yevgeny reflected back on his past and started the Skating for Hockey Aglility Program, which enhances hockey players' skating skills along with incorporating new skating philosophies and teachings.
